The counting of ballots has begun at some polling stations following voting in the UNC’s National Executive Elections today.
103.1FM News spoke with a member of the party’s Elections Management Committee, Dr Allen Sammy, who said some stations would have closed at 6pm.
Others, he adds, would have continued operations to accommodate voters who would have turned up before 6pm to cast their ballots.
As for voter turnout, Dr Sammy says while he does not have confirmed figures, it seemed to have followed the pattern of previous elections.
Earlier in the day, Mr Sammy said while there were “minor issues” these were addressed and did not disrupt the poll.
According to reports, issues included members not being able to cast a ballot due to their names not being on the list.
Two factions are contesting the NatEx election, which is for 17 positions from Deputy Political Leader to Regional Representatives.
They are the Star Team backed by political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar and United Patriots led by Mayaro MP Rushton Paray.
