Tenant injured in fire at HDC’s Clifton Hill Towers

One person sustained burns in a fire at Clifton Hill Towers in Port of Spain this morning.

The fire was reported on the top floor of Building 2 around 7:30am and was eventually put out by the Fire Service.

The main occupant of the unit was at home and suffered minor burns to the shoulder and back.

According to the HDC, the cause is said to be a faulty electrical fan.

Initial reports say the unit was partially destroyed, with damage as well to furniture and appliances.

The HDC says it will conduct checks to determine the extent of damage to the building, including water damage to the unit below.

Its subsidiary, the Facilities Estate Management Company Limited, will ensure the unit is remediated following the TTFS’ report, with the resident to be referred to the Social Development Ministry.

Meanwhile, in a subsequent release, the HDC stated that the tenant, Sheldon Lee, was occupying the unit illegally and without authorisation.
