A 38-year-old Siparia man was killed and another man wounded during an attempted robbery this morning.

The two were heading to work when they were picked up shortly after 5am at the corner of Siparia Old Road and Darsan Trace, by a car posing as a taxi.

After the vehicle drove off, a man who was already in the front passenger seat when they got in, pulled out a gun and announced a robbery.

Shots were fired as the two men jumped out of the moving vehicle – both were hit, however Leroy Sifontis was later pronounced dead at the scene.
