Singer Tony Bennett has died at age 96

Legendary singer Tony Bennett has died at the age of 96.

According to reports, he passed away this morning in New York City.

Variety says while Mr Bennett was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016, he continued to perform and record through 2021.

His professional career spanned eight decades, with a No. 1 album at age 85.

Though he had countless hits over the years, he may be best known for his signature 1962 song “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.”

He has also collaborated with artistes such as Aretha Franklin, Lady Gaga and Amy Winehouse.

Frank Sinatra once called Mr Bennett the greatest popular singer in the world.
