SEWA TT marks World Blood Donor Day

SEWA TT says community efforts can help ramp up voluntary blood donations, as T&T moves away from the “chit for blood” system.

In a written response to the Parliament recently, Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said the system was disadvantageous to patients without access to donors.

He adds that a move to voluntary, non-remunerated donations will ensure equitable blood collection and availability for those in need.

103.1FM News spoke with SEWA TT President Revan Teelucksingh, who says at the moment, not enough blood is voluntarily donated to meet needs.

This is where he believes communities and the collective can get involved.

Mr Teelucksingh adds that SEWA TT stands ready to help, having organized numerous successful blood donation drives over the years.

SEWA TT also marked World Blood Donor Day today, with a message of thanks to all those who have and continue to donate blood.

The organization has hailed blood donors as true heroes whose selflessness and generosity save lives.

SEWA TT has also informed that its Run, Walk and Ride in support of blood donation awareness has been sold out.

This event takes place on June 30th, starting and ending at the Divali Nagar.
