Search continues for gas station robbers

Police are on the hunt for two men who allegedly robbed a gas station convenience store in St Augustine.

On Thursday, the men entered and pointed a firearm at the cashier, demanding money.

The men took over $8,000 from the register, several bottles of alcohol, a Samsung cellphone from the on-duty security guard and about $400 from a customer at the store.

Police were alerted and on arrival at the scene,  observed the suspects exiting the store.

One of the suspects allegedly shot at the officers, who returned fire.

The suspects fled in a Nissan Tiida which was chased to Railway Road, Tunapuna in the vicinity of Tunapuna Market.

The TTPS says the men then abandoned the car and disappeared into the crowd.

A quantity of cigarettes and a Black Berretta Pistol with one magazine and 17 rounds of live ammunition was recovered, along with a quantity of cash.

The Tiida was also later found to have fake registration plates.
