Regional Corp chairs update on flooding in south, central

Chairmen from two regional corporations believe recent flood mitigation works prevented severe flooding in their communities.

T&T is currently under a Yellow Level Adverse Weather Alert and an Orange Level Riverine Flood Alert.

Chairman of the Penal Debe Regional Corporation, Gowtam Maharaj, said while there have been isolated incidents of flooding, this was mainly due to this morning’s high tide and was not as severe as past incidents.

Mr Maharaj school children were offered assistance to and from school, with the Army and other high vehicles on standby to accommodate requests.

He is advised that waters may start to rise again by 4PM, as the next high tide is expected around 5PM.

Meanwhile, Ryan Rampersad, Chairman of the Couva Tabaquite, Talparo Corporation also echoed the positive efforts of the flood mitigation works but said several areas were still affected by the rains.

He said that efforts to assist those in need go beyond the boundaries of the corporation.

Mr Rampersad advised that persons within the Couva Tabaquite Talparo Corporation who require assistance can contact him at 379-2035 or the hotline at 800-2882
