Police arrested five persons at the San Juan Market for various offences, as officers attempted to curb illegal vending and blocking the pedestrian walkway.

On Saturday, the men, ages 25 to 62 years, were held for wilfully causing an obstruction, exposing goods for sale, resisting arrest, obscene language and disorderly behaviour.

Two of them received 50 thousand dollars bail each, and all five are due to appear in court.

According to the TTPS, the legal market vendors and businesses were happy with the crackdown.

The officers also visited several roadside shops along Saddle Road, 1st Street, 2nd Street, Caldatinta Street and the Eastern Main Road.
