PCA investigating recent police-involved shootings

PCA Director David West says investigations are underway into two recent police-involved shootings that claimed a total of nine lives.

On Sunday a 16-year-old boy was among three killed in Caroni, and yesterday a 15-year-old girl was among six persons fatally shot in Freeport.

In both cases, there are claims that the officers were shot at first.

In a statement, Mr West says it is still too early to say what transpired in either incident.

He adds that before commenting, he would prefer to wait for investigators to compile their reports, which should contain witness statements, other evidence and hopefully video footage from the officers involved.

35 people have now been killed by police so far for 2024.

In the same period in 2023, 30 persons were killed.

Witnesses and anyone with information on the recent police-involved shootings are asked to contact the PCA at 226-4722, email the PCA at info@pca.org.tt or visit the PCA’s office at the International Waterfront Centre, 1A Wrightson Road, Port of Spain.
