Over TT$250 million in cocaine found on shipping vessel

Over $250 million worth of cocaine has been seized by police.

According to the TTPS, the narcotics were expertly hidden in a deeply sealed compartment onboard a shipping vessel, which had arrived in Trinidad from Guyana, and was destined for St. Martin.

Acting on intelligence, police collaborated with the Coast Guard to conduct surveillance of the vessel which arrived in the country on February 25th 2025.

On March 11th 2025, the vessel was observed receiving large shipments of various goods, with clearance granted for the vessel’s departure to St. Martin that afternoon.

The officers’ suspicion was aroused however when the crew altered their departure schedule, to set sail during the early hours of March 12th 2025.

The vessel’s movements were tracked and it was eventually intercepted by the TTCG in open waters and escorted to Staubles Bay.

Here, the TTPS deployed specialized resources, including a canine unit, to conduct an exhaustive search.

Over the course of a two-day inspection, the concealed compartment was discovered – it contained 157 packets of cocaine, weighing a combined total of 182.24 kilograms.

The estimated street value is TTD $254,027,980.80.

Five crew members were arrested in connection with the trafficking attempt.
