The Opposition says it supports the legal action being taken against the Teaching Service Commission over its change in the recruitment process for primary school teachers in government-assisted schools.

Recently, denominational education boards criticized the change, which now sees the Commission conducting interviews and sending the list of candidates to the denominational boards.

Previously, the Boards conducted interviews and sent candidates to the Commission for approval.

Yesterday, the High Court granted leave to the Presbyterian Church of T&T and the Presbyterian Primary Schools Board of to challenge this decision.

Leave was also granted to the Catholic Education Board of Management to join the matter as an interested party, with the matter adjourned to November 27th.

The Opposition says the settled practice before the change was based on the Concordat which must be left alone.
