An MP is urging the business community to demand “fair access” to foreign exchange, following a report by the T&T Chamber.
The Chamber conducted a survey of 111 businesses between November 13th and December 12th, 2024.
It revealed that 62.2% of businesses face delays in paying suppliers, 59.5% reported declining profitability due to forex shortages, over 69% of respondents identified favouritism in forex distribution, and 58.6% of businesses reported receiving less than 25% of their monthly forex requirements via commercial banks.
Oropouche West MP Dave Tancoo believes the Chamber’s survey has provided all the evidence needed to show that T&T’s economy is in a crisis after 10 years of a PNM regime.
He says businesses must now demand to Finance Minister Colm Imbert that there be fair access to foreign exchange.
