Couva North MP Ravi Ratiram is questioning the benefits of Agri Expos for farmers and the agricultural sector as a whole.

An Expo is carded for August 16th to 18th, however Mr Ratiram believes it is a show that does little to tangibly help the industry.

He says farmers across the country continue to face serious challenges including crime, a lack of adequate incentives, poor access roads, and flooding.

Mr Ratiram adds that the agricultural community is “struggling to survive”, as he called on the Government to prioritize fixing fundamental issues within the sector before allocating money for what he believes is a public relations stunt.

His statement goes on to say, “As the Agri Expo approaches, he challenges the government, if they are serious about food security, to deliver more than just rhetoric, underscoring that tangible improvements are urgently required to alleviate the hardships faced by those who sustain our nation through agriculture.”
