Immediate measures must be implemented to mitigate pollution and safeguard the health of residents living near the Guanapo Landfill.

This call comes from St Augustine MP Khadijah Ameen after a fire over the weekend at the site.

She said residents reached out to her saying that the smoke and fumes from the landfill blaze forced some persons to seek medical attention.

Ms Ameen says there an urgent need for a comprehensive scientific analysis to assess the extent of pollution and its impact on the community.

Operations at the landfill resume today as the blaze has been extinguished.
