Ministry assures of measures to manage Mpox cases

The Health Ministry is assuring that systems are in place to manage the Mpox virus in T&T.

In a media release, the Ministry notes that the three cases detected in the country to date have been in home isolation and do not require hospital care.

However, the Caura Hospital has already been designated as the facility to provide such care, should it become necessary.

In terms of vaccines, 2,800 doses were procured to be administered to non-symptomatic close contacts and health care professionals in any facility where a patient would be warded.

To date, no vaccines have been administered.

The first case in the current global outbreak of Mpox was identified in May 2022.
