Minister: efforts continue to address oil spill in Vistabella River

The leak responsible for the oil spill in the Vistabella River has been repaired.

This update came today from Finance Minister Colm Imbert, who told the Senate that, barring unforeseen circumstances, no more oil will be released into the environment from this point.

The spill is said to have originated from a Heritage Petroleum pipeline in Tarouba, and was first noted on Saturday,

Mr Imbert says absorbent and containment booms were deployed in water courses leading to the Vistabella River, with vacuum tankers deployed as well to collect the accumulated oil.

With regard to air quality, he says tests have shown this to be within safe parameters.
