The Public Utilities Minister has hailed WASA which he says successfully carried out maintenance works over the weekend at the Caroni Water Treatment Plant.
In a media briefing yesterday, Mr Marvin Gonzales said, “I would have seen departments inside of WASA, the operational control centre, Director of Operations and the team – both north and south, in central – the communications department, the procurement department. Everyone putting their head and shoulders to the wheel to ensure that this maintenance operation – this shutdown operation – was seamlessly and professionally executed.”
Maintenance was carried out at the Plant during the shutdown and along the Caroni transmission system.
Mr Gonzales noted that water storage at important institutions did not reach critical levels, while the customer call centre and the water trucking service were not overwhelmed.
Noting that WASA would not be given commendations elsewhere, he said, “If you open the newspapers tomorrow, no one would be commending you. No editorial writer will be commending you. And if you go on social media, the mischief makers will be saying the worst thing about you.”
Comments under the Ministry’s live stream of the media briefing included some people who complained about their water supply experience in the aftermath of the shutdown.
