Mayor: Swift action needed to address collapsing bridge

The Chaguanas Mayor is calling for swift action as he says the bridge in the Perseverance/Factory Road area has collapsed a couple more inches.

The bridge was cordoned off on August 1st, 2024 as the structure started collapsing, and according to Mayor Faaiq Mohammed, the Works Ministry visited the site on Saturday and this morning.

Speaking to 103.1FM News today, Mayor Mohammed said action is urgently needed as the full collapse of the bridge can rupture a water line and lead to a disruption for residents south of the bridge.

He also warned of the repercussions of the bridge falling into the Caparo River and blocking it with debris.

Mr Mohammed said he has a meeting carded with the Works Ministry’s Traffic Management Unit for a short-term solution to the traffic woes caused by the closure of the bridge.
