A couple of options are being considered by the Works Ministry to address the collapsing bridge in the Perseverance/Factory Road area, according to the Chaguanas Mayor.
Faaiq Mohammed tells 103.1FM News that he and his council met with Works Ministry Chief Traffic Engineer Adande Piggott who explained that one possible solution is to launch a single-lane bailey bridge with traffic lights.
The other, he notes, is to repair the existing bridge and reopen it.
The mayor says he was told that by the end of this week, the Ministry will decide which course of action they will choose.
He adds that, on the traffic management aspect, additional traffic wardens will be deployed to the Factory Road and Southern Main Road Junction to manage traffic flow.
Mr Mohammed says the Ministry is also investigating the possibility of creating an access point onto the northbound lane of the highway from Factory Road – a suggestion he made during today’s meeting.
The bridge was cordoned off on August 1st as it started collapsing.
