Jamaica’s PNP commits to conferring Order of National Hero on Bob Marley

Jamaica’s opposition People’s National Party believes reggae legend Bob Marley should be named as the country’s eighth national hero.

During budget debate yesterday, Opposition Leader Mark Golding said his party is committed to conferring Marley with the Order of National Hero if it forms the next government.

He noted that this is in keeping with his party’s “seriousness about culture and the creative industries.”

Mr Golding also commented on the ongoing One Love phenomenon been fueled by the Bob Marley biopic which is in theatres across the globe.

He said, “The ‘One Love’ phenomenon now blowing like a natural mystic across the globe shows us what cultural and creative practitioners have been telling us for years. Nurturing and growing the cultural and creative industries, sports and their diverse ecosystems are extremely important for the economic development and cultural identity of Jamaica.”
