Hollywood writers reach tentative deal to end strike

Screenwriters in the US say they have reached a tentative deal with studio bosses that could see them end a strike that has lasted nearly five months.

The Writers Guild of America said it was “exceptional – with meaningful gains and protections for writers”.

however, WGA members still need to vote on the deal and agree a new three-year contract before they return to worKim.

Among the issues raised were: pay and staffing levels, and concerns of AI taking their jobs.

The writers’ walkout is estimated to have cost the US economy around $5bn since most film and TV productions have been halted as a result.

A separate dispute involves actors, who are also on strike.
