Former Minister questions scrapping Dragon Gas deal, move to explore Grenada offshore

Former Energy Minister Stuart Young says the Government’s move to declare the Dragon Gas deal “dead” is “very frightening” and “irresponsible”.

During a media conference at Balisier House today, Mr Young said it was premature that a declaration that like was made before examining documentation on the arrangement.

Mr Young also questioned the move to explore oil and gas possibilities in Grenada’s offshore, which Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar said had more oil and gas than the Dragon Field.

Mr Young said there has been no progress since one well was drilled in 2018, which means a lot of work will be required to even prove reserves.

Regarding Guyana and Suriname, Mr Young said gas reserves there must also be fully proved, with work as well to determine the feasibility of a pipeline from those countries to T&T.
