Guyana’s Vice-President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo says his country will do all it can at the diplomatic and defence levels as it relates to the disputed Essequibo region.

This follows recent moves by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro following a referendum over the weekend: these include the setting up of a temporary government for Essequibo and plans to grant concessions for oil, gas, and minerals in the territory.

Dr Jagdeo spoke during a media conference today.

Dr Jagdeo adds that Guyana is intent on pursuing a particular path with regard to the border dispute.

The Guyanese Vice-President says however that there will not be “ball by ball” updates from the Government on the matter, since he said that is not how diplomacy is done.
