Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh assures that T&T is prepared to deal with Mpox.
Today for the second time in two years, the World Health Organization declared the virus a public health emergency of international concern, due to its spread in several African countries.
103.1FM News spoke with Mr Deyalsingh this afternoon and he assured that protocols are in place from 2022.
The Minister says T&T also has a stock of Mpox vaccines, which were bought in December 2022 and have a lifespan up until September 2025.
He adds that while his information is that these can be used against the newer Mpox strain currently spreading, advice is still being sought from experts in the field.
Mpox causes flu-like symptoms and lesions on the body and is usually spread through close, intimate contact.
Mr Deyalsingh says anyone with such symptoms should self isolate and contact their doctor.
