A checkered-band maxi system to serve rural areas has just been approved, according to Works Minister Rohan Sinanan.

His statement came as he responded to questions in the Senate about PTSC’s ability to service its routes.

He reiterated that 300 new buses would be acquired for PTSC but added that other methods of improving transportation are being explored.

One such, he said, is a sub-urban/rural checkered-band maxi system for which public consultations were held earlier this year.

Responding to 103.1FM News via WhatsApp, the Minister said the system would officially be rolled out early in 2024.
