California Governor Gavin Newsom has filed an emergency motion in a federal court calling for it to block President Trump’s expansion of the military in Los Angeles.
A report by BBC News says Mr Newsom has also accused the Trump administration of planning to use the National Guard to assist in immigration raids.
Mr Trump has deployed National Guard troops and Marines to LA following widespread protests against immigration raids.
Mr Newsom and California Attorney General Rob Bonta allege in the filing that the Department of Defense has expanded the Guard’s power to include: “arresting and detaining immigrants and others who may be suspected or accused of interfering with ICE” which they say is a direct violation of the US Constitution.

Rubber bullets, stun grenades and other non-lethal weapons have been used against the protesters over days of demonstrations.
