Authorities intervene following viral video showing child abuse

Authorities have intervened following a viral video showing a woman kicking and abusing a child.

The disturbing video was being shared online and circulated on WhatsApp.

Minister for Gender and Child Affairs, Ayanna Webster-Roy says after the matter was highlighted by concerned persons, the relevant agencies took the child into their care, providing urgent medical attention and other services.

She adds that the adult female in the video is now receiving the attention of the appropriate authorities.

Minister Webster-Roy emphasized that there is absolutely no excuse for any form of abuse of a child and is urging parents, guardians and caretakers to reach out and seek the necessary support services to help cope and overcome challenges.

Support can be sought and reports made to: the National Family Services Division at 623-2608 (ext. 6701-6711), Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (999), the CHILDREN’S AUTHORITY HOTLINE (996 or 800-2014) or CHILDLINE 131 or 800-4321.

For matters of domestic based violence, persons can call the NATIONAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE HOTLINE 800-SAVE (7283) or Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (999).
