Almost half of T&T’s exports to US will not be subjected to tariffs

The Ministry of Trade up to 47 per cent of the total value of T&T’s exports to the US will not be affected by the 10 per cent tariffs slapped on this country by Donald Trump.

It says some of T&T’s largest export commodities to the US such as Crude Petroleum and Natural Gas will not be subject to the tariff.

The Ministry says items such as energy and other critical minerals not available in the US are exempt.

It noted that while particular imports into the US from all countries have been made more expensive, T&T’s exports have not been disproportionally disadvantaged as the lowest tariff rate was applied.

The Minister of Trade has met with a team from the US Embassy, and agreed to continuously review the tariff structure between both countries.
