Chastanet to Rowley: Don’t take my remarks as individual criticism

The Opposition Leader of St. Lucia has asked Dr. Keith Rowley not to take his remarks on crime the wrong way, while doubling down on his call for joint action to tackle the issue.

Last night, Dr. Rowley rejected Chastanet’s advice after he appeared on Monday night’s Opposition UNC anti-crime town hall meeting where he spoke of plans to form a group of Caribbean opposition leaders to help deal with crime.

But, Dr. Rowley referred to Chastanet stating “No Thanks Tropical Trump” adding that the St. Lucian was thrown out of office unceremoniously, but now telling us how to run Trinidad.

Chastanet today urged Dr. Rowley to take his remarks in the spirit in which they were intended, which was not an individual criticism but rather a collective call to action.

Chastanet’s Statement
“One of the ways this region can effectively deal with the scourge of crime and the crippling effects it is having on our economy, society and ultimately our people, is to tackle it together. It is clear that individual approaches are not working. I urge the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, who is also the lead Prime Minister on Crime in Caricom, to take my remarks in the spirit in which they were intended– which was not an individual criticism but rather a collective call to action.”
