The Financial Intelligence Unit is warning of fraudsters using its name.
In a statement it says false and misleading information is being circulated by persons claiming to be in communication with the FIU or agents of the FIU.
It says these include bogus letters, text messages or faxed documents purporting to be from the FIU.
It warns that the FIU does not charge fees for services, issue clearance certificates or seize assets of any kind.
The organization adds that it also does not communicate via text messages or social media, and that requests for clearance certificates or similar invoices made in the name of or behalf of the FIU are fake/false.
It advises that any such activity be reported to the TTPS’ Fraud Squad or the Director of the FIU.
