EBC rejects claims political affiliations for Chief Elections Officer, returning officers

The Elections and Boundaries Commission is rejecting claims of affiliations between its Chief Election Officer and several Returning Officers with a political party.

In a statement, the EBC says it has been made aware of a “falsified document” containing the “unfounded assertions”.

It adds that the claims “pose a direct threat to the integrity of the electoral process and the forthcoming Parliamentary Elections”.

The EBC also insists that its CEO and all Returning Officers remain “fully committed to the principles of impartiality, professionalism”.

As such, it says the matter has been formally referred to the TTPS for a thorough investigation.
