WASA has condemned the dumping of an oil-like substance and other objects into the St. James sewerage system.
The Authority says since January 2025, its has responded to multiple reports of sewer chokes and overflows in the area, which have since been traced back to the deliberate disposal of the oil-like substance into manholes.
Despite replacing a compromised manhole cover with a locked one, it says the issue has persisted, with the dumping of plastic bottles, bags, rags and other items.
According to the Authority, this has led to repeated disruptions in service and emergency interventions, including the use of specialized equipment and sewer tankers.
It is now urging persons to report any suspicious activity near manholes or sewer lines.
