UNC candidate for Aranguez/St Joseph Devesh Maharaj has begun a community mentoring programme to tackle crime in the constituency.

At a media briefing yesterday, Mr Maharaj said crime was stifling social and economic development, particularly among youth.

Citing the breakdown in family life as a key reason youth were drawn to crime, he questioned the efficiency of the education system in preventing young offenders from returning to crime.
