WASA says over 30,000 residents will benefit from a significant upgrade to the Guanapo Water Treatment Plant.
The plant’s production capacity is expected to increase by approximately 80%, from the current 3 million gallons per day to 5.5 million gallons per day.
According to the Authority, this will bring Arima and environs closer to a 24/7 water supply.
Revealed during a public consultation at the Arima Community Centre yesterday, the project is another component of the Loan arrangement between the Inter-American Development Bank and T&T’s Government.
Addressing the gathering was Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzales who said the plant has not been upgraded or expanded since it was first built in 1984.
As such, it has not been able to keep pace with the development of the Borough and surrounding communities.
The upgrade of the Guanapo Plant will begin next month and is expected to be completed in August 2025.
