Pointe a Pierre MP: no action to deal with extortion

Pointe a Pierre MP David Lee is accusing the Ministers of National Security of “wilful inaction” as it relates to extortion against citizens.

In a statement, Mr Lee says a family in Pranz Gardens is now living in fear due to recent attacks and threats against their home and mini-mart if they do not pay over $200,000.

He adds that in Phoenix Park, the owners of another business have also been issued life endangering threats.

The MP referred to extortion as “island-wide acts of terror”  and lamented that authorities have failed to implement a single innovative unit, new measure, new plan, or dedicated resources to deal with the problem.

He has since backed the Opposition Leader’s call for the return of Community Comfort Patrols and the establishment of Stand Your Ground Laws.

He also warned “If there is no effective action, extortion will become a cancer without a cure doing irreparable damage to our country.”
