The UNC celebrated its 35th Anniversary yesterday with an Inter-Faith Function and Service Awards at its Chaguanas Headquarters.

Awardees included members who have served the party over its 35 years of existence.

Political Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar also delivered an address themed, “Celebrate the Past and Secure the Future”.

She said, “Over three decades ago, a group of committed patriots from across the length and breadth of Trinidad and Tobago huddled under umbrellas in the rain in Aranguez Savannah and gave our great, beloved late founding father, Basdeo Panday, the mandate continue the great fight for our democracy. And in 1989, on this day, our great United National Congress was formed. From a group of political outcasts in the muddy, rain soaked field of Aranguez, we have grown into one of the nation’s and Caribbean’s most powerful political entities.”
