The Met Service has issued an Adverse Weather Alert – Yellow Level, which continues to 2pm today.
It says forecast rainfall this morning, combined with accumulations over the past several hours, significantly increases the risk of localized flooding and landslides.
Additionally, moderate to strong winds in the lower atmosphere may cause gusts near 55 kph in the vicinity of heavy downpours, which can lead to falling debris or displace roofs and agitated seas.
The Met Service has advised persons to avoid venturing into flood waters, to secure loose outdoor objects and issued caution to mariners.
As of 7am, there has been reports of flooding along Abbatoir Road, South Quay, Port of Spain in the vicinity of City Gate.
