The Works and Transport Ministry says it has successfully prosecuted a case against a shipping agent who breached the Harbours Act, Chapter 50:06.

The shipping agent entered a plea of guilty to the charge of permitting a vessel to depart without proper clearance from the Harbour Master.

The Ministry believes this case demonstrates the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies in holding individuals and entities accountable.

It adds that Cabinet played a pivotal role in approving two Assistant Harbour Controllers to strengthen the office of the Harbour Master, thereby enabling enhanced oversight of vessel arrivals and departures and effectively closing gaps in T&T’s border security infrastructure.
