Work underway following highway depression

Work has begun along the Uriah Butler Highway, following the appearance of a depression in one of the lanes.

The Works Ministry says it is currently undertaking emergency drainage works at the 2.4 km mark (southbound).

The first phase of works, which consisted of demolition, excavation and prep work, has been completed.

Now underway is the placement and leveling of concrete cylinders and structural encasement.

The section of highway is due to be reopened tomorrow, August 18th.

A temporary road closure is in place to facilitate the works.
