Congratulations to the Barbados Royals Women in the 2024 edition of the WCPL, you gals deserve it. However, the real winners are women’s cricket, this was an awesome tournament! Great initiative to have double headers on the same day as the West Indies men. Thank you to the organisers and Mr. Pete Russell for the free entry to the final, the atmosphere was incredible! This is the kind of initiatives that would generate more ticket sales and support for women cricket matches, a feature of Mr. Russell’s excellent leadership.
I was in awe of the performance of Ms. Samara Ramnath, what an absolute gem of a cricketer! Powerful striker of the ball, aggressive runner between the wickets, a smooth high arm bowling action and just enough spin and drift, definitely in line to play for West Indies Women. Perhaps, because it’s only three teams and a few games, I would’ve liked to see Ms. Shunelle Sawh get some game time behind the stumps, future senior West Indies wk/batter, a lioness waiting to be unleashed as well, to join the elite list of Trinibagonian wicket keepers to play for the West Indies.
So Mr. Russell, take note, get more women teams to play in the WCPL, get more sponsors, have more double headers, play matches in more venues, allow more youth and attract more female cricketers from all over the world to participate. This is why I don’t see the need to interfere with the current CPL model, Mr. Russell is doing a great job, long may it continue.
