Women Peace and Security Advisory Group appointed

Instruments of appointment have been presented to the newly installed Women Peace and Security Advisory Group.

The Group includes Police Commissioner Erla Christopher and will be chaired by Dr Sue Ann Barratt, Head of UWI’s Institute for Gender Development Studies.

The presentation was made by Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Gender and Child Affairs, Ayanna Webster-Roy,

The Group will be responsible for the development of the first Women Peace and Security National Action Plan in T&T, with their agenda recognizing the role women play as active agents of peace and stability.

The Plan is expected to be submitted six months after their first meeting.

Other members of the Group are: Madame Justice Lisa Ramsumair-Hinds – High Court Judge; Ms. Tonni Brodber – Representative, UN Women Multi-Country Office, Caribbean; Dr Rohit Doon – former Chief Medical Officer, NWRHA; Ms. Hasine Shaikh – Chief Public Defender; Mr. Ian Rampersad – Director International Law and Human Rights; Ms. Mary Bastien – Director National Family Services; Ms. Sasonel Felix – Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist, Gender and Child Affairs Division; Mr. Amilcar Sanatan – Assistant Director, Gender Affairs Division; and Ms. Anne Marie Quammie Alleyne – Coordinator, National Policy on Gender and Development, Gender Affairs Division.
