A 64-year-old woman was killed during a home invasion in St Mary’s Village, Moruga.
According to reports, Durpatee Chance and her 71-year-old husband were tied up by the intruders who entered their home during the night.
The couple was then found this morning by a relative.
Durpatee Chance is believed to have been strangled, as a cord was found wrapped around her neck.
Commenting on the incident was Moruga/Tableland MP Michelle Benjamin, who says residents have been living in fear due to an unchecked rise in violent crime.
She is demanding an increased police presence in high-crime areas throughout the constituency, as well as better-equipped police stations and a comprehensive crime plan to address the root causes of violence in rural communities.
