A woman has been arrested in the US state of California for allegedly trying to steal $2,500 worth of Stanley cups.

According to BBC News, police in the city of Roseville were called after staff at a local store spotted a woman wheeling a shopping trolley full of the cups to a car.

The 23-year-old woman was challenged by staff but refused to pay for the items.

She reportedly put the cups into the car, but was stopped by police as she tried to enter a nearby highway.

The Stanley cup, specifically the Adventure Quencher Travel Tumbler, has gone viral on TikTok.

The #Stanleycup hashtag has had more than seven billion views worldwide, and the craze has led to a number of attempts at law-breaking.
