Nicholas Pooran was in fine form, striking 8 sixes in his knock of 75 runs off 25 balls, as the Windies raced to 257 for 4.
The Aussies had a good chase, but reached just 222 for 7 in 20 overs, falling short by 36 runs.
Gudakesh Motie and Alzarri Joseph took 2 wickets each.
The World Cup officially starts tomorrow when USA play their north American neighbours Canada from 8pm.
On Sunday at 10:30am, the West Indies play Papa New Guinea.
