The Forestry Division is currently in possession of a green anaconda found in Cascadoux Village, Mayaro.
According to the Hunters Search and Rescue Team, the snake was being sold for $1,000.
The animal was tracked down by the Division’s Wildlife Section yesterday and will remain in their possession until it can be released into a suitable environment.
103.1FM News spoke with Senior Game Warden Steve Seepersad who said the snake is about 11 feet long and weighs an estimated 50 to 60 pounds.
He adds that enquiries into the matter are continuing.
Anacondas are native to Trinidad and due to their aquatic nature, are usually found in or near waterways such as rivers, ravines and ponds.
They are also protected under the law.
As such, Mr Seepersad reminds as the authority on wildlife in T&T, persons with issues should contact the Wildlife Section at 662-5114.
