WI win first home ODI series against England in 25 years

Young West Indies cricketers starred as the men in maroon won their first ODI series against England in the Caribbean in 25 years.

In a rain-hit affair, England were restricted to 206/9 in 40 overs and a DLS-revised target of 188 from 34 overs was given to the West Indies.

Debutant Matthew Forde took 3/29 in front of his home crowd at Kensington Oval.

Then, Alick Athanaze and Keacy Carty made 45 and 50 respectively, but a batting collapse left West Indies at 135/6 after 25.4 overs.

However, Romario Shepherd donned his “finisher” hat and smashed 41 not out from 28 balls as West Indies got to 191/6 in 31.4 overs.

The last time West Indies won an ODI series against England in the West Indies was in 1998 when Brian Lara captained them to a 4-1 win.

Attention now turns to a five-match T20I series starting on December 12th at the same venue.
