The World Health Organization says it regrets the announcement that the United States intends to withdraw from the organization.

The withdrawal comes via an executive order from the newly sworn-in Donald Trump administration.

The WHO says the USA was a founding member in 1948 and as participated in implementing the largest set of reforms in its history over the past seven years.

It adds that for over seven decades, WHO and the USA saved countless lives and protected Americans and all people from health threats.

The WHO says it hopes the United States would reconsider its decision and is looking forward to constructive dialogue.
