Well Services Ltd says it believes it has identified the location of 47-year-old Pete Phillip, who has been missing since the partial collapse of Rig 110 last month.
However, it says search and recovery operations have been temporarily paused to ensure safety at the site.

In a statement issued today the company said, “In discussions with the family, we have communicated that we believe we have identified the location of Mr. Pete Phillip. However, to safely reach that location, it is imperative that the Rig is first stabilized to mitigate any further risks. Failure to do so will further jeopardize the safety of other personnel involved.”
The company says the current phase involves a distinct set of challenges that require a tailored approach, including rigorous safety assessments, logistical coordination, and adherence to established protocols to ensure the well-being of those involved.
It adds, “In accordance with guidance from OSH Authority (OSHA) and in recognition of the inherent risks associated with the recovery operation, Well Services is actively securing specialized equipment, including a heavy-lift barge and crane barges, to name a few, to support the operation. Additionally, a comprehensive safety plan is being developed and will be submitted to OSHA prior to the commencement of any further recovery activities.”
The company says it remains committed to carrying out this process with the utmost attention to safety and efficiency.
The partial collapse occurred shortly after 3am on December 22nd 2024.
