Couva North MP Ravi Ratiram says he has been contacted by parents regarding mosquitoes at the Waterloo Secondary School.
The school is closed today and tomorrow to facilitate spraying.
According to MP Ratiram, some parents believe their children would have been endangered, having been at the school for the past few days.
He also claims to have received information that spraying exercises initially scheduled for August 21st were postponed due to a shortage of chemicals.
When contacted, Education Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly told 103.1FM News that there are no dengue concerns at the school.
Instead, she said it was simply closed for routine spraying, based on the date assigned by the Insect Vector Control Division.
According to the Minister, a number of other schools have also been scheduled for spraying by the Division, describing this as “a normal, run of the mill occurrence in schools.”
She added that the IVCD could not have been expected to spray over 800 schools just before the start of school.
