Water Woes – Minister promises relief in 2024

The Public Utilities Minister says 2024 will see relief for many communities experiencing water issues.

This declaration came during today’s Budget debate as Marvin Gonzales he outlined a number of projects which he says will improve the water supply in areas across Trinidad.

These include the commissioning of three wells in Freeport in a few weeks time, a new water treatment plant in Santa Cruz, and rehabilitation work at the plants in Freeport, Guanapo, North Oropouche, Navet, and Chatham.

Mr Gonzales vowed that the range of initiatives will bring relief.

Meanwhile, Mr Gonzales gave an update on the proposed electricity rate increase.

The Minister also touched on the matter of resources for the T&T Met Service, saying that work on the radar tower at Brasso Venado will soon be completed.

He says geo-stationary operational environmental satellite GOES-16 receiving system which he says will boost the Met Service’s ability to provide reliable weather forecasting.

Meanwhile in response to the Minister’s contribution, UNC MP Barry Padarath accused the Government of doing little to nothing during its years in Government to improve the situation for citizens.

He says some residents do not receive water for weeks or even months at a time, despite paying their bills.

And he insisted that the current Government was to blame.

Mr Padarath also reminded the Minister of a past promise to restructure WASA and called for the Business Plan to be laid in the Parliament.
